Welcome back! I was on a blogging hiatus whilst I was travelling and then getting back to the routine of normal life. However, I’m back and ready for business with a bunch of drafted posts. Seeing as I’ve been away for a little while, let’s have a catch up of all the things I’ve been loving and doing in the last month!
The trip of a lifetime
I couldn’t exactly catch you up on my month without mentioning this, could I? Recently I got home from four weeks travelling with my boyfriend around India, Thailand and Vietnam. I won’t go into too much detail, so I can make some travel content and guides to these places, however I will say that it was one of the best times of my life. It was a time to fully switch off from work, spend some quality time with Nick and explore some incredible places!
The scariest TV show
You’re probably thinking that I’m going to tell you about something along the lines of American Horror Story something with axe murders or supernatural creatures. But nope, I’m talking about Years and Years on BBC. It’s predictions for Britain’s near future were so terrifying because they seemed so realistic. It’s receiving so much hype on Twitter, but rightly so! If you haven’t seen it then you need to right now.
The funniest podcast ever
If you’re looking for something that will give you a belly ache from laughter, look no further. Shagged, Married, Annoyed is the podcast you need in your life. I’m actually gutted that I listened to it so quickly and now have to wait for it each week. It’s not one of those heavy podcasts where you learn about important topics. Instead, it is the best kind of feel-good, easy listening with the most hilarious couple. It’s perfect for a quiet afternoon at work, but you will laugh out loud and your colleagues will give you weird looks.
The most relatable book
This month, I flew through Bryony Gordon’s Mad Girl after hearing her on Dolly Alderton’s Love Stories podcast. Oh man, this book. It kind of felt like a punch in thestomach, in a good way, because it was so relatable. It’s such an incredibly accurate and raw account of mental health. I’ve never read something that describes exactly how I’ve felt during my fight with depression. Bryony Gordon has written a heartbreaking and moving account of mental health issues, whilst managing to keep it entertaining (maybe because it is so relatable) and positive.
The music I’ve been loving
My playlist for June ended up being the longest one I’ve ever created! It’s almost an hour and a half of absolute musical goodness from the likes of Stormzy, Blossoms, Lizzo and Joy Crookes. There seemed to be amazing new music being released left, right and centre during June – which I’m definitely not complaining about.
Juice / Lizzo – I’ve only just discover Lizzo after falling instantly in love with Juice. Now, however, I’m completely obsessed with everything about her – her music talent, body positivity and self-love! Juice is the grooviest and most fabulous song I’ve heard in a while. You’ll feel like a bad bitch listening to this, trust me.
Perception / Joy Crookes – I can’t explain how much I’m in love with Joy Crookes’ entire new EP. She’s just bloody brilliant. Her sound is sooo smooth and soulful with lyrics that are wonderfully thoughtful and flowing.
Your Girlfriend / Blossoms – There’s nothing better than a banging indie-pop track during summer, is there? I’m a big fan of Blossoms’ music in general, but this track is gloriously good. It’s the perfect song to bop your head to this summer with a funky, upbeat sound and catchy lyrics.
The driving lessons are done
After almost six months of lessons, I’ve finally passed my driving test!! It took a long time because learning to drive in Dubai is crazy hard. However, I got there in the end. I’ve now got a newfound sense of freedom and independence which I’ve been taking advantage of this weekend. Plus I’m very happy to have to pay for Ubers on a daily basis to get to work which was racking up!
So there it is! All the things I’ve been loving, doing and enjoying during June. Have you been enjoying any of the same things? Let me know in the comments about the highlights of June for you!
