I was listening to Courtney Barnett earlier and telling my dad how if I’d been blogging when I saw her then I’d have totally reviewed the gig because it was so great. This made me think why not just write about that gig and some of the other amazing gigs I’ve been to! So here is me rambling on about some of the gigs that impressed the hell out of me and why.
Courtney Barnett @ O2 Forum, Kentish Town
Starting off with the lady who inspired this post… In November I saw Aussie singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett in Kentish Town. Before I saw Courtney Barnett live, I was already completely obsessed because her lyrics are so witty and unforgiving. However, she is even better live. I’ve never seen someone perform with as much energy, passion and emotion as Courtney Barnett!
Ben Howard @ The Eden Project
Firstly, the Eden Project was, without a doubt, the coolest venue I have ever been to! However, I’m totally in love with Ben Howard so the venue was just a bonus. The gig was so incredible because of the insanely beautiful venue combined with such breathtaking music! There is something about Ben Howard’s music that is polished and thoughtful whilst remaining entirely heartfelt and raw. I also had a tiny little cry during Conrad because it just sounded so perfect!
The Libertines @ BST Hyde Park
I never thought I’d get to see The Libertines live and for that reason alone this will always be one of my favourite gigs! Even though the crowd surging was ridiculous, I still absolutely loved it because of the crowd’s energy. There is something so intoxicating and mesmerising about the sound of The Libertines.
Arctic Monkeys @ Finsbury Park
So, Arctic Monkeys and I go waaaaay back! I’ve seen them live a lot (yes, I was a total fan girl) and obviously had to feature one of those gigs… Royal Blood, Tame Impala and Miles Kane were the support acts for Finsbury Park which made it even greater than it was! Arctic Monkeys never disappoint when I see them because they always sound completely flawless. Plus, The Last Shadow Puppets reunion (before they properly reunited this year) in the encore was the most perfect thing for
such a fan girl.
Kings of Leon @ MK Bowl
Lets roll back to two years ago: A-Level exams were over, Kings of Leon played in my hometown and a lot of cider was consumed, so this gig will always remain very special to me! I don’t think Kings of Leon have a bad song. They are such an incredible band with such a polished sound and those gravely vocals are so beautiful! I can’t remember much of this gig (I have never drank so much at a gig before) but I remember feeling so happy because I was with my best friends listening to one of my favourite bands in the sun before I left for uni!
