Welcome back to another edition of The Body Diaries! If you fancy getting involved to spread some positive vibes and self-love magic, then do not hesitate in getting in touch, my contact details can be found here. Anyway, back to this week’s interview where I chat with my lovely pal Sian: who has the most gorgeous hair, sass for days and has put up with me for too long!
Give my readers a little introduction to you. Who are you and what are you about?
Hi all, I’m Sian, I’m 21 and I’m studying forensic science and criminology in Manchester. I am an animal lover, keen reader and am fascinated by just about anything. I am quite an outgoing person, although being a typical scorpio, I have my sassy moments! When I was asked to do this, I jumped at the opportunity because if I knew what I know now, I think my attitude towards healthy(ish) eating and body confidence would be so different.
How would you describe your relationship with your body?
I used to be really body confident, to the point where I wouldn’t even care about what I wore or ate. However, I found that since I became more ‘comfortable’ with my boyfriend, I kind of let myself go. Also going away to university and gaining independence really didn’t help. I actually gained a stone in a really short period of time! This affected me so negatively, not just my confidence, but also my mental health went downhill too. Since finishing first year and returning to my regular routine, I’m slowly getting more confident. I’m losing a bit of weight and toning up more, but I still struggle with my body confidence. I had soo much of it, then it literally vanished in a matter of months.
Tell me which 3 parts of yourself that you love the most?
I have recently had my hair cut a lot shorter than my usual length and it is so bouncy and curly. I completely love love love it! I have really long eyelashes, but also I receive compliments on my eyes a lot too. My curvaceous behind is definitely a plus that I received after my weight gain! I feel like people do watch me as I leave a room because of it, which leaves me feeling rather good about myself.
What is your go-to outfit that makes you feel like you’re the hottest person on earth?
I used to always wear something body-con to show of my figure more. However, due to my lacking body confidence, I have started wearing more floaty things such as bardot tops and dresses! I hope to one day get back to the body-con dresses because I felt as if people took an interest in me when I wore something figure cuddling.
How do you try and get over the bad days you have with your body?
If I’m having an ‘ugly’ day, I usually try and stay very healthy. I try to go to the gym or even go for a walk. If my mum is around, I usually speak to her about my body troubles! She really helps me with my meals that day and reassures me that I’m okay.
What tips would you give your 12-year-old self about body confidence?
I’d suggest to try and be cautious about what you eat, but not too much that you begin to see eating as a chore. I would say, regardless of how others try to force opinions of yourself on you, try and stay true to yourself. At the age of 14(ish) curly hair wasn’t in and people picked on me because your hair was different to the bone straight hair of the popular girls. I used to straighten my hair and bleach it to fit in, but I’ve just got some kind of curl back and I love it. So most of all, I’d say don’t try and change yourself. Just love yourself for who you are!
