Trying to remain positive in your body image every second of every day is damn hard. We aren’t going to feel good all the time. It’s understandable when everywhere you look there are photos of supposedly flawless women, adverts for the latest ‘skinny tea’ and the rhetoric that fat is bad. And sometimes, you just need a little boost to put that pep back in your body positive step.
1. Spend some time naked
The only way to accept your body, is to see it. The thought of seeing your body when you’re feeling bad is probably the worst idea. But don’t be afraid of your body. Spend some time being naked. Getting to know the way your body truly looks and moves is super important. Only way to move on from feeling bad is to know your body. It’s yours and you should own it.
2. Think of just one thing
When you catch your reflection, don’t zone in on the parts you don’t like. Spend a moment to just think about something you like about yourself. It can be anything from how banging that new lipstick looks, to how great your bum is, to how funny you are. No matter how small they are, pick out some positive things. Focus on the positive things.
3. Look out for yourself
If you aren’t feeling great about your body, then look after it. I’m not just talking about exercise and eating ‘healthy’ (there’s enough pressure to do those things). I’m talking about a bit of TLC for your body, because you deserve it. Use that face mask you’ve been saving, splash out and get your nails done, treat yourself to something nice to eat. Don’t punish your body, love and cherish it.
4. Follow some badass women
If you’re feeling like you’ve lost your body positive mojo, follow and stalk some badass women. Following other body positive babes can make you feel so much better. Some of the women that I really admire and inspire me are: Megan (Body Posi Panda), Grace (Gracie Francesca), Amy (Amy Eloise) and Michelle (Scarred Not Scared). Similarly, The Body Diaries series can help you find real women who are also embracing body confidence. The love they show for their bodies can inspire you to show your body some more love.
5. Think about what your body is
Let’s take some of the aesthetics out of the way we view our bodies. Our bodies aren’t here to just look good. Our bodies carry us, they let us have adventures, create memories, love people and have fun. Legs are there for walking, who cares if you have stretch marks or cellulite. Arms are there for lifting, why does it matter if they have chunk. If you’re not feeling to great, then maybe try to focus on what your body can actually do for you. Ignore the way you look.
